Beginners Surf Coaching.

Every Year The Rotary Club of Margaret River runs Mock Interviews for Year 12 Students.

I have volunteered for the last 3 & 2025 was it's 20th year.

This year my panel met young Jack whose enthusiasm for the job, he actually already had, was infectious. It convinced, myself, Rosie and Andrea, the CEO of the shire, that we all wanted to try surfing even though we were in our 50's and 60's!

I put the word out to the local community encouraging woman of all ages to take 5 beginners lessons together.

We had a ball & two of the ladies now go surfing with their husbands who where too afraid to go out previously. The conditions on the last day were not as perfect as they hade been previously so we decided to take the lesson to the a cute little cafe by the water in the next bay. Jack taught us which apps to use and how to read the charts, so that we would be able to decide where and when to go out in our region.

Jack mentioned that his boss Simon, aka Satay Sticks - the owner of Margaret River Surfing Academy, is a wave surfer and very keen to teach the mindfulness side of surfing.

As a result I have created a Surf Series with Simon for local ladies.

Six lessons running from March 7 to March 15, 2026.

Starting with Meteorology, so that we can look to surf anywhere in the world, and culminating in a hike of the Cape to Cape trail from Hamlein Bay to Boranup Beach to surf the break where the tall Karri forest meets the turquoise sea.
